Prayer: Verses from the Holy Quran and Hadiths from the Prophet's Sunnah on the Virtues of Prayer

In the name of God ALLAH , the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Peace and blessings be upon the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, Muhammad (peace be upon him), and upon his family and all his companions, and upon those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
Prayer is the second pillar of Islam after the two testimonies of faith. It is the greatest of ongoing acts of worship through which a Muslim draws closer to God. God Almighty prescribed it for Muslims on the Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj), and its connection is direct between the servant and his Lord. The Muslim performs it at specific times each day and night.
Those who perform prayer hold a great position in Islam. God has commanded its observance in many verses of the Holy Quran, saying: {And establish prayer and give zakah}. The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “The head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is prayer,” which indicates its profound importance in the life of a Muslim.
Among the five daily prayers are:
- Fajr (Dawn)
- Dhuhr (Noon)
- Asr (Afternoon)
- Maghrib (Sunset)
- Isha (Night)
Prayer is a connection between the servant and his Lord. In it, the Muslim turns to God in supplication, remembrance, and recitation of the Quran. It is a source of peace of mind and forgiveness of sins.
Some of the benefits of prayer include:
- Strengthening faith in God ALLAH.
- Refining character.
- Cultivating discipline and time management.
- Bringing tranquility and peace of mind.
- Expiation of sins and transgressions.
* Verses from the Quran about the virtue of prayer:
﴿إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ﴾ "Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing." (Part of verse 45 of Surah Al-Ankabut)
﴿الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ﴾ Those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them. (Quran 2:3)
﴿وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ﴾ And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive. (Quran 2:45)
﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ﴾ O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. (Quran 2:153)
Indeed, those who have believed and done good deeds Those who do good deeds, establish prayer, and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and they will have no fear, nor will they
And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow (in worship). (Quran 2:43)

* Prophetic Hadiths on the Virtue of Prayer:
The Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The foundation of Islam and its pillar is prayer…” (to the end of the hadith). Narrated by At-Tirmidhi.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The covenant between us and them is prayer; whoever abandons it has disbelieved.” (Narrated by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa’i).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Tell me, if there was a river at the door of one of you, and he bathed in it five times a day, would any dirt remain on him?” They said: “No dirt would remain on him.” He said: “That is like the five daily prayers; God erases sins through them.” (Agreed upon).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The first thing a person will be held accountable for on the Day of Resurrection is his prayer. If it is sound, then he will have succeeded and prospered.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi).
In seventy: Prayer is the second pillar of Islam, and it is the greatest of deeds after the two testimonies of faith. It is a means of forgiveness of sins, elevation of rank, and attaining God’s pleasure. Therefore, Muslims must perform it concisely and at its appointed times with humility and sincerity.
